Meet Nicole
I have to be honest, the main reason I found it so appealing was its simplicity. All I had to do was look around my kitchen to find what I needed. And to my surprise, I had everything! I used a plastic tray (one we use for leftovers), I had a pack of macaroni that we never used, and added some kitchenutensils, including small shot cups (left over from parties pre-Ayden’s). I put a large blanket on the floor, the tray in the middle and Ayden next to it. All I did was observe. I was immediately impressed!
Hi! My name is Nicole and I am the creator of Everyday Sensoryplay. Together with my husband Anthony and son Ayden (3 years old) we live in Rotterdam. Everyday Sensoryplay started when Ayden was 16 months old. I saw a lot of things on social media where taste safe ingredients like pasta or rice were used in the form of play.
Through sensory play he also became increasingly better at playing independently. Surprised at his interest in the materials. I loved watching him discover the objects and watch his fingers work their way around the macaroni. This is so good for developing fine motor skills. But not only that, he played for over 60 minutes! I couldn’t believe what I saw! The focus on his face, the concentration, I was immediately sold. I started to try more very simple activities. After a short while I noticed incredible progress in everything! Through sensory play he also became increasingly better at playing independently. He was able to train his ability to concentrate so that he could play independently for a longer period of time. Which in turn contributes to the development of the brain connections that arise because space is created in the brain to process new materials, touches, etc. It’s like playing, but there’s so much more going on!

I realized how important sensory play is and started to wonder why more people didn’t know about it and do it. I was so overwhelmed with the experience I had that I decided to share my sensoryplay activities, ideas and recipes with anyone who is interested. In my opinion, every parent and caregiver should know about the benefits and importance of sensory play. This was also the moment when the idea, together with Danique, was born to introduce sensory play to everyone. Thank you for visiting and I hope you stay for a while!
